McLaren Trophy award 2025
Blooming Bo’ness were nominated and seconded to be awarded this years McLaren Trophy. Literally the town is Blooming since they took on responsibility for looking after the gardening in the town. Starting off with the Bug Hotel on Provost Road which is enjoyed by the children in the town, the group have progressed onwards to planty 100’s of whisky barrel planters throughout the town which are all sponsored by local companies and individuals. The roundabout at the bottom of Linlithgow Road was revamped from a heather covered capstan into a desert island scene, complete with an abandoned boat which was donated and planted up with seasonal flowers.
The group have progressed onto taking over the old tennis courts adjacent to Bridgeness Blowing club, turning it into a Community Allotment site as well as installing a large polytunnel so they could grow their own plants from seed instead of buying them. The group have obtained charitable status and also took ownership of the Bothy at the cemetery when the building was made available by the Council. They have also entered the Keep Scotland Beautiful competition this year. Watch this space for further news on this exciting development.
